Tom Remington's favorite web sites that provide information to sportsmen.

Hunting tips, survey results, etc.  The CDOW web site has articles on how to hunt blue grouse: http://wildlife.state.co.us/species_profiles/BlueGrouse/index.asp

Columbian or mountain sharptails: http://wildlife.state.co.us/species_profiles/SharptailedGrouse/index.asp

band-tailed pigeons: http://wildlife.state.co.us/species_profiles/BandTailedPigeon/index.asp

and chukar: http://wildlife.state.co.us/species_profiles/chukar.asp

Kansas posts their upland bird forecast in mid-September: http://www.kdwp.state.ks.us/hunting/uplandbird.html

South Dakota features one-stop pheasant shopping; get the forecast, find hunting areas, buy your license, look for outfitters, etc., all off of this link: http://www.state.sd.us/gfp/divisionwildlife/hunting/Pheasant/Index.htm

Harvest surveys: Harvest survey results for all small game species can be found at: http://wildlife.state.co.us/hunt/Small_Game/HarvestStatistics.asp

Wyoming small game harvest survey results: http://gf.state.wy.us/wildlife/hunting/stats/harvest/index.asp

South Dakota: http://www.state.sd.us/gfp/divisionwildlife/hunting/Harvest/Projections.htm

Distribution maps, land maps: The Division of Wildlife sponsored an effort that resulted in species distribution maps being prepared and published in a digital format.  They are not perfect, so buyer beware, but maps of ptarmigan, pheasant, chukar, blue grouse, sage grouse, sharptails, both subspecies of turkeys and bobwhite, scaled, and Gambel’s quail can be found at: http://ndis1.nrel.colostate.edu/cogap/birds1/gallifrm.html.  Not all species depicted can be hunted, and portions of the ranges of some (like sage grouse) are closed so be sure to check the regulations brochure before going hunting.  For topographic maps, land ownership maps, etc., hard to beat Mapsco: http://www.mapsco.com/.  Nebraska has a section on their website on birds, click on galliforms to find out about gray partridge (huns), sharptails, prairie chickens, quail, etc.: http://www.ngpc.state.ne.us/wildlife/birds/

Road Conditions/Weather: Find out what the weather is doing across Colorado and get road conditions and travel alerts by linking to satellite weather maps, forecasts, looking at live camera feeds from the interstates and message boards; includes links to neighboring states: http://www.cotrip.org/

Walk-In Access Programs:  Colorado’s maps are available (currently last year’s) at http://wildlife.state.co.us/hunt/WalkInAccess/index.asp

Wyoming Walk-In Access information and maps: http://gf.state.wy.us/wildlife/access/plpw/huntingwalk/hunt_2.asp

Nebraska has an interesting feature on their website where you enter a species you are interested in hunting and it spits out the State Wildlife Areas to hunt: http://www.ngpc.state.ne.us/hunting/findhunt1.html.

Kansas has a map showing locations of State and Federal areas you can click on for more information: http://www.kdwp.state.ks.us/hunting/st_fedareas.html
